What is Cold-Pressed Juice?

We live on the go. Our frenzied routines make it challenging to take proper care of ourselves, to the point where refueling sometimes means resorting to processed sugary foods. Yet, a wave of colorful and flavorful bottles offers a juicy alternative. Enter cold-pressed juice! Raw, cold-pressed juice is the ultimate when it comes to fresh pressed juice. Learn why this premium juice is making big waves in the health circles.

Cold-pressed juice is a beverage extracted from fruits and veggies through a hydraulic press mechanism. The cold-pressing process retains tons of nutrients from this raw juice for optimal health benefits—and a heavenly taste.

Of course, nothing beats eating whole foods from farm to table, full of fiber and replenishing properties. But cold-pressed juice is a great choice to complement your meals, satiate your snacky-self and cleanse your body.

Cold-Pressed Juice Manufacturing Process

Many of the juices we see in grocery and convenience stores are made with a centrifugal juicer. The centrifugal method uses spinning metal blades against a mesh filter to cut, mash and separate liquid from the solid matter. This involves high speed, consequent heat, and increased oxidation (or exposure to oxygen).

The cold-press juicing method is a two-stage process that uses a hydraulic cold press to extract this nourishing nectar from fruits and vegetables. There is no high speed or heat involved, which lowers oxidation and preserves the juice’s integrity, maintaining the texture, taste and quality. This method can also extend the shelf-life of the juice, two to three times longer.

Step 1: Breakdown

First, the machine chops, chews, and grinds the produce into a soft pulp.

Step 2: Pressing

Next, the pulp is placed between two cold solid plates. The machine applies extreme hydraulic pressure to the pulp to squeeze and extract the juice in a steady manner, leaving the fiber behind.

The cold-press operation is slower than centrifugal juicing, yet it maintains unique craftsmanship to it. Add in a hand-bottling process like PUR’s, and you get a labor full of love!

Cold pressing also keeps liquid separation and foaming to a minimum, depending on the specific ingredients.

Nutrient-Dense Juice

Cold-pressed juice is jam-packed with vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. It has practically no pulp residue, which makes it easy to absorb.

According to a lab test performed by Goodnature, a press manufacturing company, cold-pressed juice can have between 13% and 16% higher nutrient content than juice extracted on a centrifugal machine.

Part two of the test revealed that a sample of cold-pressed juice held up better over three days compared to its centrifugal counterpart, especially regarding vitamin A and C levels. These lab results could relate to the oxygen exposure and pulp content in centrifugal juice, which is higher than cold-pressed juice. In fact, the centrifugal sample started to break down significantly faster, with vitamin A dropping to 46% on day 3.

Benefits of Cold-Pressed Juice

1. Improves Health

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), only 1 in 10 Americans eat enough fruit or vegetables. The CDC adds that a diet rich in fruits and veggies “can help reduce the risk of many leading causes of illness and death, such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, some cancers, and obesity.”

Although there is no replacement for eating whole produce, cold-pressed juice is a handy and nutritious option to add more fruits and veggies into your diet. Thanks to some of the creative juice combinations, you may even incorporate food that you wouldn’t have tried otherwise—earthy beets, anyone?

Plus, cold-pressed juices may help boost your immune system and health per their antioxidant and vitamin content. They can also help our bodies revive, reset and recover through juice cleanses.

2. Packs Tons of Nutrients

Cold-pressed juice is full of vitamins and minerals that support your body in various ways. You can enhance your breakfast with leafy greens, get your vitamin B and calcium fix from chia, or have a citrus blend loaded with turmeric as an afternoon pick-me-up.

Regardless of your recipe of choice, cold-pressed juice allows you to access a wide array of packed nutrients from fruits and vegetables.

3. Delivers PUR Texture and Flavor

Cold-pressed juice is smooth and incredibly rich in flavor. Its little-to-no-pulp properties come into play to deliver a silky and light texture. Given its short shelf life, cold-pressed juice carries the freshness and natural taste from produce for a delicious experience!
