Many of the juices we see in grocery and convenience stores are made with a centrifugal juicer. The centrifugal method uses spinning metal blades against a mesh filter to cut, mash and separate liquid from the solid matter. This involves high speed, consequent heat, and increased oxidation (or exposure to oxygen).
The cold-press juicing method is a two-stage process that uses a hydraulic cold press to extract this nourishing nectar from fruits and vegetables. There is no high speed or heat involved, which lowers oxidation and preserves the juice’s integrity, maintaining the texture, taste and quality. This method can also extend the shelf-life of the juice, two to three times longer.
First, the machine chops, chews, and grinds the produce into a soft pulp.
Next, the pulp is placed between two cold solid plates. The machine applies extreme hydraulic pressure to the pulp to squeeze and extract the juice in a steady manner, leaving the fiber behind.

According to a lab test performed by Goodnature, a press manufacturing company, cold-pressed juice can have between 13% and 16% higher nutrient content than juice extracted on a centrifugal machine.
Part two of the test revealed that a sample of cold-pressed juice held up better over three days compared to its centrifugal counterpart, especially regarding vitamin A and C levels. These lab results could relate to the oxygen exposure and pulp content in centrifugal juice, which is higher than cold-pressed juice. In fact, the centrifugal sample started to break down significantly faster, with vitamin A dropping to 46% on day 3.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), only 1 in 10 Americans eat enough fruit or vegetables. The CDC adds that a diet rich in fruits and veggies “can help reduce the risk of many leading causes of illness and death, such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, some cancers, and obesity.”
